2003 Race 3: Walton Chasers Badge Event 9/3/03
|
Rollins takes the double: For those who had completed both other stages of the weekend's orienteering, Sunday's classic race must have proved extremely tough. The courses were fast and furious with little to slow the runners down except steep hills and sore muscles. The orienteering was much like Saturday's mtbo, with route choice providing the main challenge.
In the women's race the results changed little from the night before at the top end, as Rollins again pushed Wooton into 2nd place. In 3rd and 4th were Lorna Eades and Kim Buckley, who are both making a rapid comeback to elite orienteering after a pregnancy and injury respectively.
Perhaps more surprising were the Men's results after several of the favourites dropped out of the race. However Nick Barrable was the worthy winner with an extrodinarily fast time over the 13km course, especially considering he had competed in all three stages over the weekend. Over 2 minutes behind was Dickie Wren, and in 3rd was Murry Strain.
Congratulations to everyone who completed all three races!
