2003 Race 5: BOK National Event 6/4/03

Wren Causes an Upset! Another day, another race, and it couldn’t have been more of a contrast from Saturday’s sprint. Long (although by no means full classic distance), hilly and tough, Gare Hill was a test of fitness over technique, yet there were still several big name casualties…
Dickie Wren caused the biggest upset of the day by snatching victory out of the hands of Jamie Stevenson and Jon Duncan who were separated by 2 seconds in 2nd and 3rd. He ran a clean and controlled race, but was surprised by his own success. “I thought I was really tired on the course, but I guess that must be just because I was trying so hard.”
The women’s race saw a return to the top of the table for Heather Monro who won by a big margin of 4 minutes. Next came Sarah Rollins who is fast cementing her position as favourite for the UK cup with 3 wins and a 2nd place after just 5 races. Next was Helen Winskill with a clean and steady run.
There's still all to play for in the next stages at the JK International...
